Why New Haven Patients Choose Us

The drive from New Haven to our Trumbull office runs roughly 30 minutes via CT-15. That distance keeps the consultation, surgery, and follow-up phases manageable without major time off from work or class.

Quick CT-15 Drive

New Haven sits just 30 minutes north of our office along CT-15. Most patients fit the consultation between obligations and barely lose half a day in the process.

Procedure-Specific

Our office focuses on gynecomastia and male chest surgery. That narrow focus means deeper clinical experience for every patient who walks in.

Yale-Trained Surgeon

Dr. Reilly completed his plastic surgery training within the Yale program. He was also chosen as the chief of plastic surgery at Griffin Hospital.

Schedule Flexibility

We offer early morning and late afternoon consultation slots for patients who juggle work or coursework. Surgery dates can land on semester breaks, holiday weeks, or vacation time.

Procedures Offered

The Full Range of Gynecomastia Care

Patients arrive at our office representing every category of gynecomastia. Cases range from minor puffy nipples to substantial gland and skin involvement. Each treatment plan reflects the patient’s grade, physique, and personal goals.

Adult Gynecomastia

Adult cases account for the majority of patients we see in any given week. The standard plan removes the gland tissue and uses liposuction to shape the surrounding fat for a balanced, natural-looking chest.

Adult Gynecomastia

Teenager Gynecomastia

Adolescent patients between 15 and 18 work with us through a process that takes their age and life stage into account. A parent stays present at every appointment and contributes to all major decisions.

Teenager Gynecomastia

Bodybuilder Gynecomastia

Bodybuilder cases stem from anabolic compounds, natural hormones, or both. Training and nutrition rarely move this kind of tissue, which is why surgery becomes the only realistic option for New Haven patients.

Bodybuilder Gynecomastia

Revision Gynecomastia

Patients who underwent gynecomastia surgery elsewhere sometimes return for revision work. The most common reasons include uneven contour, residual tissue, and divot-like depressions.

Revision Gynecomastia

Post Weight Loss Gynecomastia

After substantial weight loss, the chest can hold onto loose skin and small pockets of stubborn tissue. Treatment removes both at once, which gives you a tighter, more athletic profile.

The Backstory

Our patient noticed chest fullness in his early twenties. It wasn’t severe, but it was enough to change how shirts fit and how he felt at the gym. He had been aware of it for years before deciding to look into surgery.

The Consultation

He came in on a weekday afternoon. Dr. Reilly examined his chest, confirmed Grade 2 gynecomastia with glandular tissue behind both nipples, and walked him through the surgical approach. The visit lasted about 45 minutes, and surgery was scheduled a few weeks out.

Surgery Day

Dr. Reilly performed gland excision and liposuction. The procedure took about an hour and a half. He was home by early evening with his compression vest on and discharge instructions in hand.

Recovery and Result

He took a few days off work and was back at his desk within a week. The chest flattened out noticeably in the first month, with the final contour settling in over the following weeks. The after photo shows a clean, natural chest profile with no visible scarring.

Recovery for New Haven Patients

How quickly you heal comes down to factors like age, baseline fitness, and your typical week. Your recovery plan reflects your real life, not a chart pulled from a textbook page.

Back to Campus or Desk

New Haven has a mix of campus-based students and downtown office workers. Most desk-based patients return to work after about five days. Students typically miss only a few days of class.

East Rock Park Season

Patients with summer plans for East Rock Park or Lighthouse Point Park usually book between November and February. The recovery window leaves you fully healed before the warm months hit.

Activity Milestones

Most patients are active within a few days after surgery. Light cardio gets the green light around the two-week mark. Chest-related strength work waits until four to six weeks out once the body more fully heals.

New Haven Patient FAQS

Patients from New Haven often come in with similar questions before surgery. Below are answers to the ones we hear most often all throughout the process.

The trip clocks in around 30 minutes via CT-15. Traffic in the New Haven and Bridgeport stretches accounts for most of the variation. Some patients leaving from East Rock or Westville add a few minutes for the drive.

Plenty of New Haven plastic surgeons handle gynecomastia among many other procedures. Our office focuses on male chest surgery, and that specialization shows up in the consistency of results and the depth of clinical experience Dr. Reilly brings to each case.

Incisions sit along the lower edge of the areola, where the natural color shift hides them as healing progresses. Most patients find the scars hard to spot at six months out, though individual healing varies.

Patients planning summer trips to Lighthouse Point Park or weekends along the Long Island Sound generally book between November and February. The four to six month buffer leaves plenty of room for full healing before warm weather arrives.

Pre-op prep is straightforward and we walk you through it during your consultation. The list includes a short medication pause, a planned ride home, and simple dietary guidelines the night before. The full checklist will be given after you book your date.

Dr. Reilly was appointed as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Griffin Hospital in Derby, which sits within the Yale-New Haven Health system. His own training came through the Yale program. Surgeries themselves take place at our accredited Trumbull facility or at Griffin Hospital.

The vest stays on around the clock for the first four weeks, then transitions to daytime-only wear for another two weeks. Total time in the vest typically runs about six weeks, though we may adjust based on how you’re healing.
