Gland excision

The Backstory
This patient put in the work. His chest was well developed from years of training, but glandular tissue sitting on top of the muscle rounded everything out. From the side, the chest projected forward in a way that didn’t match the rest of his build. No amount of bench pressing was going to fix it.
The Consultation
Dr. Reilly felt firm gland tissue on both sides along with a small amount of surrounding fat that added to the rounded shape. The plan involved excision to remove the gland and clean up the contour so the actual pec muscle could show through.
Surgery Day
The gland was taken out through small incisions, and the transition between the chest and the surrounding area was smoothed out for a natural look. It was a quick procedure, done in about an hour and a half.
Recovery and Result
He held off on chest exercises for several weeks but stayed active with lower body work in the meantime. Once cleared, he was back to full training. The side view says it all. The rounded projection is gone, and the chest now reflects the muscle underneath. Clean lines, flat profile, and no tissue masking the shape he built.
Recovery for Fairfield Patients
Recovery moves at different speeds for different patients, depending on age, baseline health, and what their daily routine looks like. Your individual recovery plan reflects what you actually need, with realistic milestones for return to work, exercise, and normal activity.
Back to Work and School
Fairfield patients work in a mix of fields, from corporate roles in Stamford and NYC to academic positions at Fairfield University and Sacred Heart. Most desk-based work resumes after about a week. Family and parenting routines pick back up within a few days, depending on your kids’ ages.
Penfield Beach Season
For Fairfield patients with summer plans at Penfield, Sasco, or Jennings Beach, surgery between November and February sets you up well. The recovery window leaves your chest fully healed and the compression vest off well before Memorial Day weekend rolls around.
When Activity Resumes
Patients can take a daily walk starting within the first days after surgery. Light cardio activities become safe around the two-week mark. Pushups, bench press, and other chest-engaging exercises wait until somewhere between weeks four and six.
