Five Forms of Gynecomastia Care

Fairfield patients arrive with cases at every level of gynecomastia, from minor puffiness to severe excess gland and skin. Each treatment plan adjusts to grade, anatomy, and the specific result the patient wants from surgery.

Adult Gynecomastia

Adult cases involve some combination of glandular tissue and surrounding fat in nearly every situation. Dr. Reilly removes the tissue and uses liposuction to smooth out the chest contour. The combined approach delivers a flatter, more masculine chest line.

Adult Gynecomastia

Teenager Gynecomastia

Teen patients between 15 and 18 receive care that matches their developmental stage and emotional needs. Parents are part of every appointment, every conversation, and every treatment decision.

Teenager Gynecomastia

Bodybuilder Gynecomastia

Active patients sometimes find that intense lifting and clean nutrition can’t reduce stubborn chest tissue. The cause typically traces back to anabolic compounds, hormonal cycles, or both. Surgery becomes the practical solution when training adjustments don’t move the needle.

Bodybuilder Gynecomastia

Revision Gynecomastia

Revision patients come to us when an earlier gynecomastia surgery somewhere else didn’t deliver the result they expected. Frequent issues we address include hollow areas, leftover gland tissue, asymmetry, and overly visible scars.

Post Weight Loss Gynecomastia

Patients who shed significant weight commonly find chest skin that won’t tighten back up and small areas of stubborn tissue that remain. The procedure removes the leftover tissue and tightens loose skin during the same surgery. The result is a chest contour that fits the rest of your reduced frame.

The Backstory

This patient put in the work. His chest was well developed from years of training, but glandular tissue sitting on top of the muscle rounded everything out. From the side, the chest projected forward in a way that didn’t match the rest of his build. No amount of bench pressing was going to fix it.

The Consultation

Dr. Reilly felt firm gland tissue on both sides along with a small amount of surrounding fat that added to the rounded shape. The plan involved excision to remove the gland and clean up the contour so the actual pec muscle could show through.

Surgery Day

The gland was taken out through small incisions, and the transition between the chest and the surrounding area was smoothed out for a natural look. It was a quick procedure, done in about an hour and a half.

Recovery and Result

He held off on chest exercises for several weeks but stayed active with lower body work in the meantime. Once cleared, he was back to full training. The side view says it all. The rounded projection is gone, and the chest now reflects the muscle underneath. Clean lines, flat profile, and no tissue masking the shape he built.

Recovery for Fairfield Patients

Recovery moves at different speeds for different patients, depending on age, baseline health, and what their daily routine looks like. Your individual recovery plan reflects what you actually need, with realistic milestones for return to work, exercise, and normal activity.

Back to Work and School

Fairfield patients work in a mix of fields, from corporate roles in Stamford and NYC to academic positions at Fairfield University and Sacred Heart. Most desk-based work resumes after about a week. Family and parenting routines pick back up within a few days, depending on your kids’ ages.

Penfield Beach Season

For Fairfield patients with summer plans at Penfield, Sasco, or Jennings Beach, surgery between November and February sets you up well. The recovery window leaves your chest fully healed and the compression vest off well before Memorial Day weekend rolls around.

When Activity Resumes

Patients can take a daily walk starting within the first days after surgery. Light cardio activities become safe around the two-week mark. Pushups, bench press, and other chest-engaging exercises wait until somewhere between weeks four and six.

Common Concerns Fairfield Patients Raise

Fairfield patients considering gynecomastia surgery often come in with similar questions. Here are some of the most common ones that our office hears from patients.

The trip from Fairfield runs about 15 to 20 minutes via Route 25. Patients leaving from Southport or near Fairfield University can stick to local roads connecting to Route 25 and reach our office quickly.

Loose, button-down shirts work best for the first few weeks. T-shirts that go over your head put strain on the chest, so anything that buttons or zips in front makes daily life easier. The compression vest fits under most regular clothing without being noticeable.

For Fairfield patients with summer plans at Penfield Beach, Sasco Beach, or Jennings Beach, surgery between November and February sets you up well. The healing window leaves your chest fully recovered before warm weather arrives.

Domestic flights become an option around two weeks after surgery, and international travel typically waits until three weeks. Long car trips are fine after about ten days with regular breaks. Dr. Reilly will give you specific guidance based on your healing progress.

Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed before surgery as a preventive measure and continued briefly afterward. The decision depends on your medical history and the specific procedure plan. We walk through any necessary medications during your pre-op visit.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that buttons or zips in front. Bring your photo ID, a list of current medications, and your driver who will take you home. Most other items are provided at the office. Leave valuables and jewelry at home.
